Adani's Carmichael Project Declared Critical
The Queensland Government has this week declared Adani’s Coal Mine and Rail Project as ‘critical infrastructure’.
The Government invoked special powers to help progress Adani's $21 billion project in the Galilee Basin.
It’s the first mining project that the Government has ever elevated to ‘critical’ status.
State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the move would mean less red tape for the project and the Coordinator General can sign off on approvals quickly.
A ministerial services spokeswoman said the goal in awarding the special status to Adani was to "reduce red tape and keep the project moving for the thousands of jobs and business opportunities it offers north and central Queensland".
Adani aims to start construction in 2017 once all of the necessary approvals have been granted.
